Shelton Mayoral Debate Oct. 19

On Monday, Oct. 19, the Shelton Voters Network and Shelton High School Junior State of America will co-host a Shelton mayoral candidates debate.

Participants include Michele Bialek, Democrat, and official write-in candidate Timothy Bristol, unaffiliated. A third candidate, current Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti, Republican, has declined to participate.

The debate will be held at Shelton Intermediate School, 675 Constitution Blvd. N.

A meet and greet with candidates will take place in the lobby at 6 p.m. with the debate beginning at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

At the mayoral candidates debate, audience members will be invited to submit facilitated questions to the candidates. The League of Women Voters of the Bridgeport Area will moderate the debate.

Supporting the event and volunteering that evening will be Shelton High School student members of Junior State of America (JSA). JSA is a student-run nonpartisan non-profit organization designed to empower high school students with the tools they need to participate in current issues and affect positive change in their lives and the world.

The Shelton Voters Network is the Shelton affiliate of the League of Women Voters of the Bridgeport Area. The non-profit, nonpartisan group educates and connects voters with information so that they may become better informed about and more active in their local government. The group primarily does this through its website, www.SheltonVotersNetwork.org, and Facebook page and Twitter feed.

The Shelton Voters Network meets the second Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. in Scinto Tower One, 1 Corporate Drive in the lobby meeting room where new members are always welcome.

Shelton Voters Network member Judith Carey notes, The mayoral candidates debate will be a great way to hear the ideas and plans of two candidates running for Mayor of Shelton. It will also give community members the opportunity to ask questions to the two candidates.”

The Shelton Mayoral Candidates Debate is free and open to the public.
