Shelton Police Issue Update On Saturday’s Fatal Shooting

SHELTON — Police on Monday released a few more details about Saturday night’s fatal shooting outside the Marriott Residence Inn on Bridgeport Avenue.

A motive for the shooting has not been stated. No arrests have been made, but detectives have issued multiple” search warrants seeking evidence.

According to a statement released Monday, police and EMS received a report at 11:33 p.m. Saturday that a man in the parking lot of the hotel at 1001 Bridgeport Ave. had been shot.

The man, identified Sunday as 23-year-old Ivan Whyte of Bridgeport, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Whyte was found next to a vehicle which police believe he had been driving at some point.

Police believe Whyte was at the hotel to meet several acquaintances who were in a room at the hotel having a get together,” according to Monday’s prepared statement from police. 

Detectives completed multiple search warrants related to this investigation. Several items of evidentiary value were seized. Detectives are working with other law enforcement agencies on this investigation,” according to the statement.

Representatives from the state’s attorney’s office responded to the scene, and the crime scene was processed by the state police major crime squad. 

Police noted all information is preliminary at this point and could change going forward.
