Shelton Woman Critical After Candle Ignites Clothes

A Shelton woman is in critical condition at Bridgeport Hospital’s burn center after her clothing caught on fire and burned about 50 percent of her body Monday evening.

The woman, Anna Zolt, accidentally caught her clothes on fire with a lit candle in her bathroom, according to Shelton police.

Her clothes ignited, and her husband put out the fire.

The incident happened at their Buddington Road home at about 8:50 p.m. Monday.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Zolt was still listed in critical condition at Bridgeport Hospital.

Shelton police said the incident appeared to be accidental, but they haven’t spoken with Zolt while she is hospitalized.

The fire department was called in to help ventilate the room after the fire was put out. Echo Hose Ambluance also responded to transport the woman to Bridgeport Hospital.
