Original post from Tuesday night follows:

Two people are in the hospital after a stabbing inside an apartment house on Maple Street Tuesday night.

The Valley Independent Sentinel has learned that the suspect in tonight’s stabbing is Toai Nguyen, an illegal immigrant who served prison time for nearly beating his father to death.

Police were called to the scene just before 6 p.m. after receiving a report that a woman had been stabbed. After arriving at the scene, officers quickly called for a second ambulance.

Detective Ben Trabka told the Valley Indy at the scene that the incident was between a brother and sister. The sister was taken to Bridgeport Hospital.

Police are still trying to figure out what happened.

All I can say is that we have a suspect in custody,” Trabka said.

Maple Street is off Howe Avenue in downtown Shelton. The apartment house were the stabbing took place is across from the entrance to the Boys and Girls Club.

In 2008, Nguyen, 37, beat his elderly father with the Club, an automobile anti-theft device. The vicious attack fractured his father’s skull. Nguyen was released from prison earlier this year, according to an article published in April in the New Haven Register.

This story will be updated as more details emerge.

At the same time of the stabbing, firefighters and an ambulance were sent to Mohegan Drive for a false report of a house fire.
