Update: State Police Investigating Crash That Took The Lives Of Two Children

BEACON FALLS — State police announced on Monday that two children died in a crash on Route 8 north on Sunday.

The victims are a 6‑year-old girl and a 3‑year-old boy.

They were riding in the back seats of a 2021 Honda Civic EX that was rear-ended by a Ford F‑600 Super Duty truck on Route 8 north Sunday, Feb. 4 at 3:26 p.m.

The collision happened in the northbound lane, one-half mile north of exit 23 in Beacon Falls.

The crash is under investigation by state police. Anyone who saw the collision or has information about the incident is being asked to contact Trooper Daniel McCue by phone at 203 393 4200 or by email at [email protected].

Two adults were riding in the front of the vehicle carrying the children. Police did not specify the relationship of everyone in the car.

However, the children and the 25-year-old female passenger share the same Bridgeport address. The female passenger sustained serious injuries and was taken to Waterbury Hospital by Beacon Falls ambulance. The Civic’s driver, a 33-year-old man from Stratford, was also badly injured and taken to St. Mary’s Hospital by Beacon Falls EMS.

The driver of the Ford F‑600 is a 40-year-old man from Oxford. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital.

The two children were declared dead after arriving at Waterbury Hospital.

BEACON FALLS — Five people were hospitalized after a serious motor vehicle crash on Route 8 north on Sunday.

State police are investigating.

According to a Facebook post from Beacon Hose Co. No. 1, fire and EMS crews responded to the northbound incident at 3:26 p.m. between exits 23 and 24.

The crash occurred near the overpass crossing the Naugatuck River, and Connecticut State Police shut down the highway,” according to the post.

Four of the five injured parties were from one vehicle.

Three patients were taken by Beacon Falls ambulance to Waterbury Hospital. Two people were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital by Naugatuck ambulance.

NBC CT reported the injuries of four people as critical.“

Route 8 was closed for about five hours, according to Beacon Falls Co. No. 1.

A second, five-car crash was reported at 7:28 p.m. near exit 23 while the highway was closed.

Our same units from earlier responded, and Beacon Hose and Seymour EMS each transported one patient with non-life-threatening injuries,” according to the post.

Beacon Hose Co. No. 1 is the volunteer fire department, EMS, and rescue provider of Beacon Falls, according to the description posted to the organization’s Facebook page.

State police had not posted information about the incident to its public information website as of 5:30 a.m. Monday (Feb. 5).

Seymour First Selectwoman Annmarie Drugonis posted to Facebook on the Seymour government page at about 10 p.m.

Tonight my thoughts are with all our emergency responders, their families, and the families that were affected by the many incidents that happened throughout the day. Thank you for your dedication to our community,” she wrote.
