Stratford Man Charged In Sports Center Parking Lot Robbery

A 20-year-old Stratford man surrendered to Shelton police Thursday (Dec. 11) after cops obtained an arrest warrant charging him in connection to a gunpoint robbery in the parking lot of a River Road sports complex last month.

Dontay Walker was charged with first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.

In a prepared statement, Shelton Police Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said the arrest stems from an incident reported Nov. 15 in the parking lot of Sports Center Connecticut, a popular recreational facility at 784 River Road.

The two victims reported to police that they made arrangements to meet with a friend in the back parking lot of the complex,” Kozlowsky’s statement said. The 20-year-old male victim and 21-year-old female victim were waiting in a car and the friend entered the backseat of the vehicle. The victims reported that the friend then grabbed the male’s head and pulled out a gun and demanded their belongings.”

A second unknown suspect, later identified as Dontay Walker, then approached the vehicle and took the female’s purse and phone,” Kozlowsky’s statement said. Both suspects then tried to open the driver’s door, but the male was able to slam the door and drive away.”

The robbery was reported about 6:40 p.m., Kozlowsky said Friday.

Detectives conducted a thorough investigation and were able to identify both suspects,” Kozlowsky’s statement went on. A second arrest is expected in this case.”

Police held Walker on $150,000 bond to be arraigned in the case at Superior Court in Derby.
