Superior Products Buys Seymour ‘Outdoor Living’ Business

SEYMOUR — The Haynes Outdoor Living Showroom at 600 Derby Ave. is now Superior Products Distributors after the Haynes Group sold its retail operation.

The sale happened in February. A new name went up on the building within the last few weeks.

The Haynes Outdoor Living Showroom building off Route 8 sold items such as custom-carved outdoor kitchens, grills and fire pits. That will all remain, but under the Superior Product brand.

Superior Products Distributors is based in Southington. The company launched in 1967 and sells everything from concrete pavers to fire pits.

Superior is leasing the building from Haynes. The Haynes Group – based in Oxford and the developers of the mixed-use Quarry Walk on Route 67 in Oxford – still owns the building and the 32-acre property.

Haynes operates a quarry on the property (named Haynes Materials). Blasting, a practice that has angered neighbors, will continue.

Superior Product Distributors, Inc. was a good choice for Haynes Materials as they are Southern New England’s largest independent family-owned companies who service both contractors and homeowners alike and is open to the public,” Haynes Group development manager Kathy Ekstrom told The Valley Indy in an email.

Superior Products now has six locations across Connecticut.

According to Superior marketing manager Anna Tiede, the business was looking to expand, and the Seymour location was the right fit.

The opportunity found us,” Tiede said. We have five other locations in Connecticut and the owners are always looking to expand to provide more options for our customers. Haynes came to us, and we found the location is a perfect fit for us.”

In addition to the hardscape and landscape supplies, Tiede said the Seymour store will also cater to homeowners, with a variety of fire pits, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, high-end outdoor furniture, hot tubs, and saunas.

The Seymour store employs about 10 people.

A message on the Superior Products website announced the new Seymour location, calling it an exciting acquisition” with some changes coming:

Over the next several months we will be transforming the location into a full-service Superior location to include site and pipe products, equipment and supplies, instrumentation and concrete accessories so that we will be able to serve our customers with so much more.”
