Woman Injured In Ansonia Hit-And-Run

Update July 29: Ansonia police announced on Facebook that the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run has been located and that the accident remains under investigation.

Ansonia police are searching for the driver of an SUV that struck a woman on Wakelee Avenue Wednesday morning and then drove off.

In a prepared statement, Lt. Andrew Cota said about 7:35 a.m. several people called 911 reporting the hit-and-run, which occurred near Wakelee Avenue’s intersection with Jackson Street.

Officers arrived to find a woman lying on the ground being tended to by a passerby.

The female had sustained a head injury and was complaining of pain to her hip area,” Cota said. The female was transported to St Vincent’s hospital in Bridgeport.”

The woman is in stable condition, Cota said.

Witnesses told cops that the woman had been struck by a small, dark colored SUV.

Police released surveillance photos from nearby businesses and asked residents for help in locating the vehicle and its owner.
