Ed Strang Day In Derby

Alligators, pythons and iguanas, oh my! Cold Blooded Critters will be the feauture event at the free Ed Strang Day event being held on the Derby Green on Oct 2 from noon to 3 p.m.

Since 1994, when movie actor Brian Dennehy returned to Derby to honor his former Cubmaster Edmund D. Strang, the event showcases Scouting to the community through hands on activities open to all children.

In addition to the Cold Blooded Critters display, youths will have the opportunity to walk a rope bridge, ride a zip line, shoot archery, taste dutch oven cooking, run an obstacle course, visit a fire truck, learn fire safety, view a model campsite and visit with the founders of the Scouting movement, Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, portrayed by long time friends of Troop 3, Simon and Linda Seaton, from London, England. Youths will also have the opportunity to build, race and bring home their very own pinewood derby car.

Funding made possible from a Valley Community Foundation Grant will allow free membership registration and uniforms for boys joining Cub Scout Pack 3 or Boy Scout Troop 3 and boys and girls joining Venture Crew 33 during the months of September and October. Registration forms will be available at Ed Strang Day and youths must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to join. For more information visit www.troop3derby.org or call 203 732 0343.
