SEYMOUR — Seymour Public Library hosts Rachel Christ-Doane from the Salem Witch Museum in Massachusetts for a free Zoom lecture “ The Salem Witch Trials & Public Opinion” on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at 6:00 PM. Registration is required.

Today, Salem, Massachusetts has become a complex and unique example of public memory. This program will take into account the history of witch trials while placing Salem in context with three hundred years of European trials. Salem, as a powerful social metaphor will be discussed and how, to this day, it is used to denote fanatical, superstitious or unjust behavior.

Finally, the city of Salem and how it has struggled with its witch-related history will be discussed, and how it has gradually changed over time, reflecting the drastically different and ever evolving popular conception of the witch.

This program will be given through Zoom and is free to all. Registration is necessary. Click here to register, or phone the library at 203 – 888-3903.
