At a Board of Selectmen meeting Tuesday, Miller announced that the plaza’s owner received permits from the town to begin the interior demolition of a significant chunk of the old plaza, which was was once anchored by an Ames department store, back when department stores were a thing.
There is absolutely no word on any future tenants, Miller said.

It’s a significant step forward for Tri-Town Plaza, which, along with the Derby Redevelopment Zone, is the most talked about yet least progressed properties in the lower Naugatuck Valley (though the Derby zone recently showed signs of life, too).

What about Alberto’s, the recently-renovated pizzeria? (The movie theater end of the plaza and Alberto’s are expected to remain open during the demolition, which will happen between the town end caps, essentially, Miller said.)
Can we find away to influence the corporation that owns Market 32 to build a store in that location?
After the structure is razed, what aesthetic will be done to the property? Will we look at weeds and rubble for decades?
