UPDATE: SHOTS FIRED IN ANSONIA

No one was injured after 14 gunshots were fired in two shootings in the area of the Riverside Apartment complex Thursday.

Police responded to Riverside at about 1:30 p.m., found bullet casings in the courtyard at Riverside — and then stumbled upon evidence of a second shooting on nearby Lester Street.

It was kind of weird looking at it,” said Lt. Andrew Cota of the initial reaction to the scene. Are these connected? Is it a coincidence that we found this car up there full of holes?”

Over the next few hours — lacking suspects and victims — police believe they’ve pieced together the series of events that led to the puzzling scene.

Two Cars Hit, Moved

Just before 1:30 p.m., a man fired seven rounds into an empty parked car at the Riverside Apartment complex and then fled into the woods leading up to Lester Street, witnesses told police.

There may have been two men, but police aren’t sure yet, Cota said.

The bullet-ridden car was nowhere to be found when police arrived. Police believe the owner got in and drove away after the shooting.

A few minutes later, a red Acura Integra, parked in a driveway on Lester Street, was given equal treatment: Seven bullets were fired into that car, leaving holes in the windshield, passenger window, the side and the back windows.

The owner, seeing the damage, moved it out of the driveway and parked it on the side of the street, police said. He told police he didn’t want his friend’s mother to come home and see a car with bullet holes parked in the driveway.

We don’t know if he was actually involved in the shooting,” Cota said of the Acura’s owner, who was not identified.

He said he heard the shooting and came out and found his car all shot up,” Cota said.

No Victims

As far as police can tell, no one was injured in the shooting.

Police said both cars appear to have been unoccupied when the shots were fired into them.

Griffin Hospital didn’t report anyone coming in with gunshot wounds, Cota said.

Some neighbors reported hearing gunshots on Lester Street. One neighbor, who declined to give his name, said he saw a man running south on Lester Street after he heard the gun shots.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Ansonia Police Department at (203) 735‑1885.
