The Cellular Connection Opens In Derby

The Cellular Connection, a cell phone store specializing in Verizon Wireless products, held a grand opening last week at its new Derby location.

The store is at 654 New Haven Ave., in the former Union Trust bank building — a property that has been vacant for several years.

It is the eighth Cellular Connection store in Connecticut.

We have found a great home in Connecticut, and we look forward to putting down roots in the community of Derby and other parts of the state,” said Scott Moorehead, president and CEO of The Cellular Connection, in a prepared statement.

A ribbon-cutting for the Derby store was held Friday. As part of the festivities, the store made a $500 contribution to Derby Public Schools.

The store employs 15 people.

New Haven Avenue is a huge draw for retail customers with its high volume of traffic and ease of accessibility,” Mayor Anthony Staffieri said in a prepared statement.

Late last month Edge Fitness signed a deal to move into the former Staples store on New Haven Avenue. Work is underway to renovate the store into a fitness club.

Also, the Town Squire Diner recently opened at 42 Pershing Drive at the site of the former Frankie’s Grill.

Verizon is the latest new store to open its doors here in Derby. I know we are happy to add to our growing list of retail businesses here in Derby and I look forward to a long working relationship with Verizon,” the mayor said.

The Cellular Connection is owned by Moorehead Communications, a company based in Indiana.
