Robber Hits Shelton Bank

A bandit hit the Citbank at 850 Bridgeport Avenue Wednesday, using a note to get an unspecified amount of cash.

There were no injuries reported.

Police at the scene following the 3:30 p.m. incident said they are searching for a suspect who is light-skinned black man described as six feet tall. The man did not display a weapon, police said. He handed the teller a note.

He fled in a blue-ish gray, late 1990s model Mitsubishi Galant. Police did not know whether he was the driver or a passenger of the vehicle.

Police are investigating what spokesman Lt. Robert Kozlowski called a possible connection with a robbery an hour earlier of a TD Bank in Waterbury, and another robbery about a week ago in Stratford.

For witnesses, it’s a lesson that bank robberies can be subdued affairs.

Selena Nichols looked up from her laptop computer at a table in the Panera Bread store, next door, and could barely believe a bank robbery had happened while she sat in front of the window facing the parking lot.

I didn’t even know it was going on,” Nichols said, explaining she had been there all afternoon.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Shelton police department at (203) 924‑1544.
