Betty Jane Camp

Betty Jane Camp, age 87, of Shelton entered rest on January 6, 2025, in the home of her daughter, Cindy, in Oxford. She was the beloved wife of 59 years to Raymond W. Camp.

Betty Jane was born in Bridgeport, CT on February 15, 1937, the daughter of Dorothy Soule Driggs and Kyle Driggs.

She is the beloved mother of Cynthia D’Amico (Richard), Raymond Camp, Sherri Gregoire, Nancy Camp-Font (Raul) and Jeffrey Camp (Peggy).

She leaves seventeen cherished grandchildren, Rich, Dana, John Kelly, Danny, Charlie, Andy, Spencer, Gianna, Rachel, Elizabeth, Tyler, Jake, Morgan, Sophia, Dylan, Isaiah, and Ava and thirteen great-grandchildren, Gavin, Brianna, McKenzie, Jackson, Mckenna, Easton, Rosalie, Jovie, Maris, Shiloh, Sam, Tristan & Church.

She also leaves her dear friend Barbara, Babs” Lesinsky and several nieces and nephews. Betty is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Karen Camp Cozza of VT and Patricia Camp of WI and her brother-in-law, Walter Camp of Southbury, CT.

Sadly, while still very young, her parents divorced but not before her mother gave birth to a baby boy. This child was adopted by a family from the Bridgeport area. It is our hope to one day connect with him.

Betty was predeceased by her older brothers John Driggs and his wife Mona and Richard Driggs, as well as brothers-in-law, Thomas and Charles Camp.

After graduating from Harding High School, Betty went to work for the phone company until marrying Ray, the love of her life. The two then built a house and moved their 5 young children to Shelton where she resided for 50 years. She was known to boast about her English and Dutch heritage and having descendants, George Soule and Mary Beckett, who arrived in America on the Mayflower!

When her children became school-aged, Betty worked in the cafeteria at Shelton High School, Shelton Senior Center then proudly retired from Pitney Bowes.

Betty’s last 2 ½ years of life required assistance from Cindy and Satch, (Rich). While living in Oxford she enjoyed frequent visits with family and friends, weekly outings, their dogs, sunning on the patio, and watching, Death Valley Days at night with Satch. Despite dementia, she thrived on family vacations to FL and Disney, and a long overdue reunion with her sister-in-law, Karen, as well as Cooperstown to watch her Great Grandson play bb!

Betty was Baptized and received into the Catholic Church on Holy Saturday, 1991. A few days before her death, Betty received the Anointing of the Sick and Apostolic Blessing by Fr. Claudiu. She is forever in our hearts and will be greatly missed.

Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton on Friday, January 10th from 4 to 7 PM.
