Gjona Merditaj, age 81, entered eternal rest on January 3, 2025, at Griffin Hospital, with her loving family by her side.
She was the beloved wife of the late Prek Mirdita. Gjona was born in Ranoc, Kosovo on May 7, 1943, daughter of the late Frrok and Prenda Jakaj. She lived in Kosovo until moving to the United States on September 1, 2001. Gjona enjoyed crocheting, taking walks and spending time at the beach or beside the ocean. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Antoneta Gecaj (Martin) and Tueta Merdita of Ansonia, sons, Petrit Merdita of Waldshut-Tiengen, Germany, Agron Mirdita of Milford and Palush Mirdita of Ansonia, brothers, Dode Jakaj and Krist Jakaj of Ranoc, Kosovo, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, CT. A prayer service will be held during visitation. She will be buried alongside her husband in Dardania Catholic Cemetery in Peja, Kosovo.
