Joan Searles, age 83, entered eternal rest on January 6, 2025, at Griffin Hospital in Derby, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert P. Searles Sr.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on December 27, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Carmelo and Rose Caruana Polizzi. Joan was a graduate of Derby High School and a resident of Derby and Ansonia her entire life. For many years, she was employed in the admitting department at Griffin Hospital in Derby and later as a clerical administrator for Dr. Robert Russo MD and Associates in Trumbull, until her retirement in 2004. Joan loved cooking and preparing meals that everyone could enjoy. She took much pride in keeping a meticulous home and tending to her many beautiful plants. She was an avid sports fan, especially cheering for both the men’s and women’s UConn basketball teams. Joan will be deeply missed.
Joan leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Robert P. Searles Jr. of Shelton and Richard S. Searles of Derby, sister, Madeline Baklik of Derby, three grandsons, Ryan Searles (Heather), Austen Searles and Matthew Searles, a granddaughter, Taylor and her girlfriend, Myriah and her son, Tucker, two great-granddaughters, Emersyn and Raelyn Searles, several nephews, nieces, aunts, and cousins, and her beloved canine companion Misty. She was predeceased by her sister, Joanne Marino, daughter-in-law Grace Searles, and brother-in-law Andrew J. Baklik.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Friday January 10, 2025, from 9:00 – 10:30 am in the chapel of Spinelli-Ricciuti Funeral Home, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. Her funeral will then proceed to St. Mary’s Church, 212 Elizabeth Street in Derby for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Burial will immediately follow in Mount Saint Peter Cemetery in Derby.
