Joseph G. Papeika, age 63, of Derby entered into rest on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Griffin Hospital in Derby. He is the beloved husband of 35 years to Patricia (Bourne) Papeika. Joseph was born in Derby on January 8, 1961, son of the late Robert and Rosemary (Clynch) Papeika, and was a lifelong resident.
He was a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University Class of 1985 with a degree in social work and made an impact helping people with physical and psychological challenges. Joseph had many interests. He loved to read and was well-versed in electronics. He also played the organ, loved photography, and created stained glass.
In addition to his wife he leaves a brother, Thomas Papeika and his wife Helen, fourteen nieces and nephews, and two great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Ann Bisaccia.
Friends may greet the family at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street, Derby, on Sunday from 1 to 3 PM. On Monday his procession will leave the parlor at 9:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church. Entombment will follow at Mt. St. Peters Garden Mausoleum in Derby.
The family extends special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Smilow Cancer Center and Griffin Hospital, and Mary from Accent Hospice for her special care.
