Karen Gail Warycha

Karen Gail Warycha, age 80 of Milford, passed away unexpectedly on March 10, 2025 after being brought to Bridgeport Hospital. 

Karen devoted her life to caring for others. She was always the first to be there when anyone needed help. 

Mrs. Warycha was a voracious reader, loved hosting family gatherings at her beach house in Milford, and enjoyed walking her loyal canine companion Bailee” on the beach. 

Mrs. Warycha was an avid swimmer and enjoyed ocean swims during the summers in Milford. Whenever she got the chance, Karen enjoyed kayaking with siblings and friends. Born in Derby on August 27, 1944, Karen was the daughter of the late Marian Miller and John Francis Thompson. 

Mrs. Warycha was raised in the Valley and was a graduate of Seymour High School. She then went on to earn her B.S in Nursing. Karen later earned her MSN Degree in Nursing Education from the University of Hartford. A lifelong learner, Mrs. Warycha kept current in her industry by continuing to take classes at various universities in CT. Her career spanned over 50 years working as a psychiatric nurse and was employed by the State of Connecticut upon her retirement. 

She is survived by her devoted children, Susan Lyn Carothers of CA and Jonathan Gene Warycha and his wife, Daphne of WA; a sister, Nora Meeker of Seymour; brothers, James Thompson and his wife, Linda of ME and John Jack” Thompson of WA; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Betty” Warycha of Derby; her eight cherished grandchildren, Mitchell Warycha and his companion, Besa Bom of Beacon Falls, Brendan Carothers of Milford, Shea Lynn Carothers of CA, Cayden Warycha of CO, Nikki Warycha of CA and James, Cora and Luca Warycha of WA; as well as several nieces and nephews. 

Family and friends may call on Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Funeral services will take place in the funeral home at 10:30 AM, interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
