Madeline (Hritz) Bottone

Madeline (Hritz) Bottone, age 91, entered eternal rest on November 4, 2024, in New Haven, CT. She was the beloved wife of the late Alphonso J. Bottone.

Madeline was born in Granville, New York on April 21, 1933, daughter of the late Nicholas and Helen (Filisko) Hritz. She was a graduate of Stratford High School and went on to work at Fairfield University and later at AVCO Lycoming in Stratford as an Executive Secretary. In 1963, Madeline married the love of her life, Alphonso (Fonzy) and moved to Ansonia. In 1976, she was employed at Ansonia City Hall, first as a receptionist in the mayor’s office, and later as an assistant in the Town Clerk’s office. She served as the Assistant Town Clerk for sixteen years and the Town Clerk for another sixteen years. She loved serving the citizens of Ansonia. Madeline was a proud member of the Democratic Town Committee and the Connecticut Town Clerk’s Association.

In her younger years, Madeline enjoyed league bowling with her friends and frequent trips to Foxwoods Casino. She had a knack for unscrambling words in sentences and looked forward to daily word Jumble and Cryptoquote. Madeline loved watching football and rooting for her children’s favorite teams. She especially enjoyed watching UCONN women’s basketball and never missed a game. Above all, Madeline loved spending time with her beloved family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she was overjoyed to be a great grandma, Gigi.” To know Madeline was to love her. Her beautiful smile could light up a room, and her kindness and selflessness knew no bounds. She was the glue that held her family together and we are all better for having known and loved her.

Madeline leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Lisa Goggi (Alan) of Ansonia, son, Joseph Bottone (Margaret) of Bethany, cherished grandchildren, Jessica West (Stephen), Alyssa Goggi (Fiancée Megan Feragne), Nicholas Bottone, Geoffrey Mate (Amy), Glenn Mate (Emily) and most cherished great-granddaughter, Emma Rose West, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Helen Skirkanich, Margaret Zaniewski, Mary Turner, Katherine Hritz and Julia Zatzick, brothers, Joseph Hritz and Michael Hritz and companion, Ralph Blowers. The family would like to thank all of Madeline’s wonderful caregivers over the past four years.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Sunday, November 10, 2024, from 2:00 – 5:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Monday morning, her service will begin in the funeral home at 9:15 am then proceed to Three Saints Orthodox Church in Ansonia for a Divine Funeral Liturgy at 10:00 am.
