Margaret W Crowther, “Peg”, 92, a resident of Oxford, CT, passed away on Saturday, October 12th at Waterbury Hospital.
Peg was born in New Haven, CT, the daughter of the late Elizabeth DeAlmo Williams and Warren Williams. She was raised in Oxford and Ansonia by her foster parents, Alice and William Schreiber. She graduated from Ansonia High School and Grace New Haven Hospital LPN Program.
Peg started out as a young nurse at Griffin Hospital in the early 1950’s. After raising her family with her husband Bill, she returned to nursing at Shady Knoll Nursing Home, in Seymour. Eventually she returned to Griffin Hospital, as a volunteer for many years, where she trained other volunteers.
Throughout Peg’s life she volunteered in her community: Cub Scout Den Leader, Red Cross and Oxford Community Car Pool Service.
Peg was a life long member of the Oxford United Church of Christ. For her special devotion to the annual Fall Fair, she was honored for her 45 years of service by renaming the bake sale room as “Peg’s Pantry”.
She will be remembered for her kindness, her interest in all people, of all ages, her love of her family and friends, her Oxford roots, and her beloved Cedar Lane neighbors.
Peg is predeceased by, her husband, William R Crowther, siblings, Idella (Schreiber) Schmidt, Lucy (Schreiber) Dischert, Marie Donofrio, sister in law, Patricia Crowther, nephew Clinton Crowther and nephew Harold Schmidt.
Peg is survived by, her children, Richard Crowther(Patti), Janet Crowther (James Heller), Laura (Crowther) Clark (William), her grandsons Michael Crowther, James Crowther, Benjamin Heller, Seth Heller, Greg Sluti, Patrick Sluti and granddaughter, Kristen (Sluti) Chryssanthacopoulos(James) and former daughter in law Nancy Capponi. Her siblings, William Arthur Schreiber(Linda) and family, Nancy (Schreiber) Tuccio and family, Thomas Schreiber (Shirley) and family. Her brother in laws, Clinton Crowther and daughter Catherine Salem and family, J Glenn Schmidt and family, William Dischert/ Kerwien family, Lanctot family and Terrill family and all their extended family members.
Family and friends are welcomed to her Memorial Service at Oxford United Church of Christ at 2PM on Sunday, November 24th. Located at 3 Academy Road, Oxford CT.
