Mary J. “Janice” (Hammac) Rice, age 83, a long-time resident of Beacon Falls, entered eternal rest on December 28, 2024, at Griffin Hospital in Derby.
She was the beloved wife of sixty-five years to George A. Rice Sr.Born in Bronx, New York, on May 1, 1941, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Russo Hammac. Mary was a homemaker who lovingly cared for her home and family.
She was happiest cooking, baking, and hosting holiday dinners. She adored spending time and making precious memories with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Seeing her family happy and smiling was what Mary treasured most.
Her hobbies included singing, dancing, traveling and trips to the casino. She will be sadly missed but will remain in our hearts forever.
In addition to her husband George, Mary leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Mary Sue Feige (Thomas Sr.) of Shelton, Brenda Rice of Beacon Falls and Debra Rosengren (Robert) of Norwich, a sister, Rose Deegan of New Port Richey, FL, grandchildren, Thomas Feige Jr. (Katie) of Beacon Falls, Melissa Bauer (Christopher) of Trumbull and Kayla Rosengren of Norwich, great-grandchildren, Emma Feige, Thomas Feige III, Jeffrey Bauer, and Bennett Bauer, along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son George A. Rice Jr., brothers, James, Dennis and William Hammac, sister, Gloria Burns and grandson, Sean G. Rice.
Mary’s funeral service and burial will be private. The SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia has been privileged with the arrangements.
