Rosario “Russell” Altimari, age 86, of Woodbridge, entered into rest on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was the devoted husband of 61 years to Prassede (Falvo) Altimari.
Russell was born in Marzi, Italy on October 2, 1938, son of the late Eugenio and Amalia (Tucci) Altimari. Russell and his wife Priscilla owned and operated Altimari “Little Italy” in Derby, CT for 37 years. Over the years, they formed a strong relationship with the community, their store was a gathering place for many people.
They loved to socialize with everyone who stopped in to enjoy everything they had to offer. Russell and Priscilla had to make the hard decision in 2023 to close Altimari’s due to their health. When Russell was younger he was the bass guitarist for over 30 years in the band Vesuvio 5. He was also a longtime member of the Sons of Italy.
Russell is the beloved father of Amalia (Amy) Altimari and loving grandfather of Serena Arduini and also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers Antonio Altimari and Fortunato Altimari and a sister Rosetta Altimari.
Friends may greet the family on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 from 4 to 7 PM in the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home 253 Elizabeth Street Derby. On Wednesday his funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 11:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 :00 PM at St. Mary Church, Derby. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery.
