Walter Jesse Kummer Jr., 75, of Seymour, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024. Walter was born June 26th, 1949 in Derby, Connecticut, the son of Walter J. Kummer Sr. and Grace Kummer (née Hickey).
Walter graduated from Notre Dame High School of West Haven in 1967, then went on to Iona University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Psychology. He worked as a counselor and behavioral psychologist at Elmcrest Psychiatric Institute, Fairfield Hills Mental Hospital, and the state of Connecticut. Walter was known for earning his patients’ trust and helping even the most challenged clients. Walter was a passionate audiophile who listened to a wide range of musical styles. A few of his favorites were the work of Bob Dylan, jazz fusion, and ambient music.
He loved hard science-fiction books and film. Walter grew-up attending Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Seymour, Connecticut. Except for his time in college, Walt lived in Seymour for his whole life. Walter embraced new technology and was always curious. He excelled at problem-solving, listening, and vexing bureaucrats.
Remaining to cherish Walter’s memory are his children, Walter (Jaclyn), Joseph (Laura), and Steven (Annie); grandchildren, Victoria, Ashley, Cassondra, Alivia, Chase, and Aubree; brother, Kenneth (Bethia); nephews, Jesse and Rory; and his ex-wife of 33 years, Sandra. Preceding Walter in death are his parents, Walter and Grace.
