Update: Seymour Woman Dead In Roosevelt Drive Crash

A 25-year-old Seymour woman is dead after a head-on crash between a tractor-trailer and an SUV on Roosevelt Drive near Lake View Terrace.

Nicole C. McDonald was driving a 2013 Toyota RAV4 west on Roosevelt Drive when it collided with a tractor-trailer heading east.

The crash happened just three miles from McDonald’s residence on Housatonic Terrace, which is off Roosevelt Drive in Seymour.

The crash remains under investigation.

The tractor-trailer’s driver was identified by police as Luis Ambioris Garcia, 28, of Syracuse, N.Y. He was driving a 2009 Volvo tractor-trailer.

Roosevelt Drive was closed for several hours in both directions between Buckingham Road and Lake View Terrace after the crash.

Derby police are investigating, with assistance from a Shelton accident reconstruction team. The Connecticut State Police Truck Squad was also called in to assist, according to a statement from Derby police.

Traffic was detoured toward Hawthorne Avenue, which is parallel to Roosevelt Drive (state Route 34).

The crash was reported at 7:44 a.m. in the Pink Hose Cove” section of Roosevelt Drive.

It is the fourth fatal crash in that area since 2010. Residents who live in the area insist the road is not safe.

According to the state Department of Transportation, there were 27 crashes between Cullens Hill Road and Lake View Terrace from 2007 to 2011.

After two serious crashes in October 2012, local officials talked to the state DOT about possibly putting more signs on the road to warn of the sharp curves in the road.
