SHELTON — Scouting America Troop 55 of Shelton is officially celebrating its 55th anniversary, marking over five decades of character development, outdoor adventure, and dedicated community service. Chartered by the Huntington United Methodist Church, the troop has served as a cornerstone for local youth development since its founding.
Over Five Decades of Impact
- Founded: Established to provide local youth with leadership opportunities.
- Eagle Scouts: 80 scouts have achieved the prestigious Eagle rank.
- Service hours: Thousands of hours dedicated to local community projects.
- Sponsor: Proudly chartered by Huntington United Methodist Church.
Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders
Troop 55 continues to thrive by teaching essential life skills through a youth-led program. Scouts learn self-reliance, teamwork, and environmental stewardship. Their impact is visible across Shelton through numerous Eagle Scout service projects, including park renovations, trail builds, and community donation drives.

“At the end of the day, we need more Scouts,” said Pat Boyd, Eagle Scout and state representative in Connecticut, in a statement highlighting the program’s modern relevance. “It teaches leadership development, outdoor skills, and self-reliance—all these things that particularly post-COVID we say that youth need to be more engaged and Scouting’s one of the best programs to teach leadership in the country.”
