Lauretti Wins 11th Term In Shelton

Mark Lauretti led a Republican sweep in Tuesday’s election to win his 11th term as Shelton’s mayor.

Lauretti trounced Democratic opponent Chris Jones by almost a 2‑to‑1 margin. The vote tally released by the Registrar’s Office was Lauretti 6,589 to Jones 3,586.

Republicans also took control of the Board of Education, and retained their majorities on the Board of Apportionment & Taxation and the Planning & Zoning Commission.

Jones Hopes For Upset With Grassroots, Aggressive Campaign

Chris Jones, Democratic candidate for Shelton mayor, sat down at his downtown headquarters with the Valley Indy and spread out dozens of pages of documents on a long table. 

The documents — the city’s recent audit, grant applications, fire marshal reports concerning Shelton High School — were all obtained by the candidate from City Hall using Freedom of Information requests. 

He’s been using the docs as a foundation to raise issues about leadership in Shelton under 10-term incumbent Mayor Mark Lauretti.

I’ve done my homework these past two years. And I’m trying to get that out to the people now,” said Jones, 44, a life-time Shelton resident.

Lauretti Raised Twice As Much As Jones In Shelton

Mayor Mark Lauretti had raised almost double amount of money than his challenger, Chris Jones, according to campaign finance reports filed with Shelton Town Clerk.

Lauretti had raised $19,035 between July 1 and Sept. 30, according to the filing, which is the most recent available.

Jones had raised $9,920 as of Sept. 30. He started fundraising in June, according to the filing.

Guest Column: Shelton Is Paying For Police Officers It’s Not Getting

With all the recent home burglaries and drug raids that have occurred in Shelton over the past couple of weeks, I feel obligated to inform the residents of our city what is going on at the Shelton Police Department.

The Laurretti Spin: Shelton has the lowest mill rate in the area.

The Truth: Shelton taxpayers are over taxed because the promised services are never delivered.
