After a dominating win over Montville, the Ansonia Chargers will be taking on St. Joseph’s at Rentschler Field for the CIAC Class S Championship.

The game will take place next weekend at a time to be announced.

The Chargers’ offensive line was the determining factor in Ansonia’s 46-15 win Saturday over no. 2 seed Montville. Dylan Vano, Hakeem Martin, Arek Kaszuba, Tyler Williams, Matt Hall, and Derrick Montanez paved the way for Montrell Dobbs as Dobbs rushed 36 times for 362 yards and five touchdowns in the win.

Montville (10-2) entered the game averaging 42 points per game. The Ansonia defense knocked Montville’s leading rusher, Tyler Girard-Floyd, out of the game on the Indians’ first play from scrimmage. Girard-Floyd rushed just once for a total of one yard. He later entered the game but the Indians were not the same team they had been throughout the season without Girard-Floyd being able to provide them with an ample contribution.

Freshman RB Arkeel Newsome got the Chargers on the board with a 47-yard touchdown reception from QB Elliot Chudwick in the first quarter. Ansonia took the lead on a 2-point conversion by Dobbs, 8-7, and never looked back.

Ansonia out-scored Montville 38-8 the rest of the way. Newsome also recorded two interceptions for Ansonia. The Chargers’ defense recorded a total of four turnovers in the second half and capitalized by scoring touchdowns.

Dobbs moves to second all-time, behind former Ansonia RB Alex Thomas, as the state’s leading rusher in a season. He also has 42 rushing touchdowns on the year.
