SHELTON — State officials reported Saturday that a 5-year-old boy pulled from the Housatonic River on July 15 has died.

The boy passed away Friday, July 18, according to a press release from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP)’s Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon).

The boy had entered the water from a boat launch dock at Indian Well State Park in Shelton and began struggling. The incident happened at about 4 p.m. DEEP staff at the park pulled the boy from the water with assistance from Shelton firefighters and police, according to state officials.

The boy was unconscious when he was pulled from the water.

His name and hometown were not released.
