HARTFORD — The Connecticut Department of Social Services is warning the public about a phone scam that has been targeting residents:
Have you received a phone call from 800-747-6742, 888-895-6668, 833-564-4662, 469-982-5014, 844-239-6616, or 888-589-2826? Those are not DSS phone numbers. How can you tell it’s a scam call or email? Here’s what to know:
* DSS won’t call or text you to tell you your card has been deactivated.
* DSS will never ask you for your PIN
* The phone number listed isn’t the correct phone number for DSS.
* DSS will only text from the benefits center number or 60302.
*The scammer tries to create a sense of urgency by telling you your card has been deactivated and you need to act fast.
* DSS will never email to ask you to log into your account.
