SHELTON – A former Shelton High School teacher was charged Aug. 22 with sexually assaulting a student on school grounds.
Jason Kymer, a Beacon Falls resident, is charged with second-degree sexual assault, tampering with a witness, and risk of injury to a child.
He is free on a $50,000 bond pending an Aug. 25 court date.
Police said they received information in June 2025 alleging Kymer, a gym teacher who also coached girls track, had been abusing a student when she was 17-years-old. Kymer is 38.
“The victim told police that the sexual contact occurred in the school,” Shelton police said in a prepared statement.
As police built a case, the victim told police she received a phone call from Kymer.
“The victim stated she blocked Kymer’s number, so when she answered the unknown number, after him speaking, she recognized it was Kymer’s voice. The victim stated Kymer told her, ‘just do the right thing’,” according to police.

Kymer is the second teacher in the lower Naugatuck Valley this year to be charged with abusing a minor.
Former Ansonia High School teacher Vincent Wynne, 41, of Torrington, was arrested by Torrington police in June and charged with second-degree sexual assault where the victim is under 16, as well as illicit sexual conduct with a minor under 16.
Wynne is accused of exchanging sexual messages with a 15-year-old in the Torrington area, then meeting the teen in a parking lot in Torrington to engage in a sex act. He allegedly told police he believed the teen was 17 years old, which is still a minor, according to his arrest warrant.
