Omer. J. Fortier, Jr., age 93 of Shelton, peacefully entered into rest on Saturday September 13, 2025 in his home with his loving family by his side. He was the devoted husband of 71 years to the late Dorothy Ann (Kondash) Fortier. Omer was born in Derby on October 27, 1931, son of the late Omer J. and Florence (Hill) Fortier and was a lifelong Shelton resident.
Omer was a general contractor for many years until his retirement. He was also a Supernumerary Police Officer for the City of Shelton. He served our country in the Airforce during the Korean War. Omer was a hunter who loved the outdoors.
He is the father of Donald Fortier and his wife Meredith, James Fortier, Cheryl (Fortier) Cybart, and Elizabeth (Fortier) Smith and her husband Steve, proud grandfather of Nicole Rogucki (Mike), John Cybart IV (Carol), Emily Fortier, Ellie Fortier, Kyle Fortier, Stephanie Fortier, and Steven Smith (Marlana), and great grandfather of Robert and Abigail Rogucki and Rhianna Garcia-Smith. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, Omer was predeceased by his sister Alice Holly.
Friends are invited to attend his services at the Huntington Lawn Cemetery, 24 Lane Street, Shelton at 11 am on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025. The Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, is entrusted with his arrangements. Online condolences can be extended at www.riverviewfh.com.
