DERBY — Police lodged 14 charges against a 26-year-old man after he allegedly sped away after officers tried to pull him over.
According to a statement posted to Facebook on Nov. 10, police tried to stop a vehicle being driven by Jonathan Villa at 6:45 p.m. Nov. 5 on Academy Hill Road. Villa’s hometown was not given.
Villa took off, passing several other vehicles on the wrong side of the road, police said. He hit a curb near High Street, then sideswiped a vehicle, damaging his car to the point he could no longer flee, police said. There was no word on injuries.
“An inventory search of Villa’s vehicle located a replica Glock BB Gun (classified as a dangerous weapon) and two black ski masks,” according to the Facebook post.
Police noted Villa is a previously convicted felon.
He is charged with:
Illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle (a felony)
Carrying a dangerous weapon (a felony)
Interfering with an officer (misdemeanor)
Reckless driving
Engaging police in pursuit
Failing to have insurance
Failing to have a registered vehicle
Failing to have a front license plate
Operating a vehicle with a suspended license
Misuse of license plate
Traveling too fast for the conditions
Three counts of failing to stay in the proper lane
Villa is free on a $75,000 bond pending a Dec. 17 court date.
