DERBY — UPDATE: The City of Derby postponed the scheduled tax board meeting due to an ice storm forecasted for the lower Naugatuck Valley.
The next meeting is Tuesday March 10, 2026 at 6 pm.
Mayor Joseph DiMartino is scheduled to unveil his proposed budget at a public meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday (March 3).
The presentation is scheduled to happen at a meeting of the Derby Board of Apportionment and Taxation, also known as the tax board.
The meeting will be in person in Derby City Hall. The public can also attend virtually by using the Zoom teleconferencing app. Click here for the agenda and the Zoom info.
Linda Fusco, the mayor’s chief of staff, said in an email the mayor’s budget includes a new mill rate of 39.1 mills. That’s a decrease from the current mill rate of 43.2.
However, this budget includes new property assessments from a state-mandated revaluation. Assessments increased by an average of 61 percent, according to Brian Hall, the city’s finance director.
Fusco said the average tax bill will increase 1.4 percent if the mayor’s budget is approved by the tax board as is.
She also said the Board of Aldermen & Alderwomen recently voted to phase in the new assessments by 20 percent per year over a five-year period. Click here for a previous story.
The tax board will review the budget before they vote in the spring.
