The Board of Selectmen met in executive session to discuss the details of the ongoing investigation of Tax Collector Karen Guillet prior to its regular meeting last month.

Tax Collector Karen Guillet was placed on paid sick leave Jan. 13 after First Selectwoman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers received an anonymous tip about money missing from the tax collector’s office.

Town officials have not said how much money is allegedly missing.
Drayton-Rogers filed a written complaint to state police Feb.11. Included with the complaint — an audit of the tax collector’s office dating back to July 2009.

Drayton-Rogers said she would not comment on the progress of the investigation but did indicate that she recently met with state investigators.

“That is all I can say at this time and that is where it will stay until any action is taken,” she said.

Drayton-Rogers did not say how soon any action would take place.

Neither Guillet, nor her attorney, Edward Giacci, could be reached for comment.

Due to an anticipated busy tax collection season, the Board of Selectmen unanimously approved to expand the temporary assistant tax collector’s hours.

  1. when will MadR formally ask her to resign?
She is an elected official and needs to step down for the good of the town.
If she is innocent her reputation has been ruined by the allegations of wrong doing. She will never be trusted again to do her job, she will win a big cash settlement from the town through a law suit. If she is guilty she owes a debt to society (jail time).
We need to have a special election ASAP to get the tax office back on track enough time has been wasted already with this scandal.

  2. As others have said in the past, the investigation is with the State Police and they have jurisdiction over this issue.

Once the State Police make their report, the proper action will be taken.

  3. Oxford resident can you read or do you just correct grammar and spelling?
By sending Mrs. Guillet home and not allowing her to preform her elected duties has damaged her reputation beyond repair.
She will no longer be trusted by any taxpayer again.
Innocent or guilty does not matter she will not be able to return and she can forget about re-election.
So it is time to move forward.
