Did Friday’s coverage of the “Team Tate” drama in Shelton cross the line?
Did the media create the expectation there would be a walkout?
Is the treatment of Dr. Beth Smith online even close to being fair?
The three Valley Indy staffers — Eugene Driscoll, Jodie Mozdzer and Tony Spinelli — talk about this week’s Shelton promgate coverage in an audio interview.

Mo Chairde:
Now, whatever you do, don’t let yourselves become paralyzed by navel-gazing.
That being said…
Regarding that flack’s comments about Dr. Smith’s press conference: we need to keep in mind that the incident involves disciplinary action against several students; as such, a whole litany of privacy laws come into play. There probably wasn’t much she could legally say about it, and a freewheeling Q&A would only have served as an “occasion of sin” to violate those laws, or else look like a fool repeating “no comment” ad nauseum.
Rules may be rules but the punishment doesn’t fill the offense. Supt. needs to better understand the changing society and culture. Go Team Tate!
