I have read that the city has appealed the million dollar federal court decision in favor of Home Inc. and Valley Housing.
I would like to know what the Board of Aldermen intends to do about it?
Judge Melancon found that the City’s Building Inspector, Ex-Mayor Garofalo and Ex-Alderman Rizzitelli acted by discriminating against supportive housing.
“Discrimination was not only a significant factor but was the sole reason for Derby’s action,” the judge said.
What does this Board intend to do about it?
I think it is prudent to draw the residents of Derby’s attention to the issue. I am baffled that the Board of Aldermen has not even commented on this decision and the liability the City has as a result of it.
I know they were busy worrying about dog poop, buying an Alderman’s house, sitting at the big people’s table and defending their clients at the Board of Aldermen meetings, but I think they should be focused on the issues that affect the taxpaying citizens in the City of Derby.

I waited a few months for the Aldermen to sit in their “big people’s chair” and see if they would focus on the right issues, but to no avail.

Since we’re asking questions, I’d like to know what former alderman Joe Bomba thinks about his good friend, Mayor Staffieri, overstepping his authority and undermining the authority of the Derby Library Board of Directors by trying to force them to hire Joe Bomba full time when the library neither needs or wants a full-time custodian?
Yes This board has taken care of a lot of the lingering problems that sat for the last three or four years even the dog poop. That one should have been easy for this administration but it took years of public works complaining and taking away from more important duties to finally be rectified. As the city is in the middle of an appeal on this matter and it was well publicized a month ago. I will leave the political finger pointing to those who do it best. Bd of ald pres. Ron Sill
I can NOT believe Mr. Bomba should have anything to say about the BOA….As a former member of the BOA what did he ever do for the city ? He sat on the board when they fired two public works men, who by the way got there jobs back with pay…..Or is it the chairman of the REDEVELOPMENT committee that is really moving this city in the RIGHT direction….Great job so far…Our downtown never looked so good…Given you track record, I really don’t think you should have much to say. I find it comical that all the usual suspects will sit here and talk about nonsense when we’re pumping raw sewage into the Housatonic because we didn’t take care of our infrastructure for who knows how many years. Maybe if the public discourse wasn’t this drivel something may actually get done. Sill for Mayor 2013!!
I hear a lot of issues that the city has, but I will throw this out there for you all to ponder. I have been around the state to many City Halls whereas; I see a diversity of people employed throughout most of the cities. Until I come to Derby. Which this is not the case. I see a problem with this in the near future. I think that it is time for a change in the thinking of possibly some who believe in a certain set of values. I think Derby cannot handle anymore lawsuits than they already have. I think it is time to stop playing the good old boy game and join the rest of the world. Because maybe money would not come up missing and the city would not be sued for Ignorance of a couple of people who still work for the city of Derby. Deterring from the truth of the matter has cost the Derby tax payer enough. What I have found most people are afraid of what they do not know, and some are just ignorant; moreover some need that status to make up for their own shortcomings. What needs to happen is this place needs to be shaken up to stop the backwoods politics. And possibly those who have run Derby for Decades need a little gut check and a good look in the mirror.
