SEYMOUR – The town recently received a $20,000 anonymous donation to help businesses in Klarides Village damaged during the Aug. 18 flood.
Last the Seymour Board of Selectpersons, acting upon a recommendation from Seymour Emergency Management Director Chris Edwards, voted to divide the donation equally among the business owners in the plaza, which is off Route 67.
Fourteen of the plaza’s 16 businesses were damaged by the Aug. 18 flash flooding.

SEYMOUR – The Seymour Board of Selectpersons unanimously voted on Nov. 19 to appoint a Charter Revision Commission.
The members are Kevin Atterberry (D), Tom Gardella, (I), Tara Miller (R), John Stelma (D), Richard Peck (R), Naveen Madivala (U) and John Lombardo (R).
The makeup of the commission aligns with the charter rules that a majority of members can’t be from the same political party, according to Seymour Town Attorney Bryan LeClerc.

SEYMOUR – Husband and wife Julio Garcia and Ana Cruz recently opened the Riverside Diner at 179 Roosevelt Drive in the space that was previously occupied by Chaves Bakery.
The 1,400-square-foot diner is near the Housatonic River in a small plaza that also houses Cugino’s Italian Restaurant and Linda’s Wine & Liquors.
Garcia and Cruz, who originally hail from Mexico, moved to Connecticut more than 20 years ago. Both have worked in a variety of restaurants over the years at local eateries including Plaza Diner in Shelton and Route 67 Diner in Seymour.

Highlights from the Seymour police blotter, Nov. 23 to Nov. 30.
NOV. 26, 2024
10:24 a.m. Police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Bungay Road.
1:16 p.m. Police were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on Bank Street.
11:50 p.m. Police responded to a report from a caller who said someone was defecating in the commuter parking on Derby Avenue. Police were dispatched to the lot and found the report was false.
SHELTON – A first responder parade is scheduled for approximately 1:30 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 7) to raise awareness for TEAM Inc.’s annual toy drive.
Every year the “Team Toys 4 Kids” drive provides holiday presents for about 2,000 kids in the area. Click here for more information on the event, including a list of locations where people can drop off toys.

On Saturday, first responders from the Naugatuck Valley will be hosting toy dropoff locations.
Nighttime operations will typically occur Sunday night through Thursday night.
Saw-cutting and concrete pavement repair activities will continue, northbound from Exit 15 to 22 (New Exits 12B to 18).
Both northbound and southbound traffic lanes have moved to the right shoulder to create a work area for median barrier replacement between Exit 20 and 22 (New Exits 17 – 18).
Median barrier and median drainage is being replaced.

SEYMOUR — The Friends of Seymour CT Public Library will be holding a December Book Sale.
The sale will be Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7, 2024.
Hours on Friday the 6th will be from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and will be for members of the Friends only. Memberships can be bought at the door. Saturday, December 7 the sale is open to the public and will run from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm.

SEYMOUR – Seymour High School junior Wyatt Smarz gained approval from the town’s Board of Selectpersons on Nov. 19 to hold the town’s first-ever inclusive “This is Me” relay race/walkathon to raise awareness for those with autism and intellectual disabilities.
Wyatt told the board he has autism.
“Those labels don’t define me, my actions do,” Wyatt said.
