Ansonia Gets New Alderman

Political newcomer Robert Beall got one night’s experience before Election Day Tuesday night, after the Board of Aldermen picked him to fill a vacancy in the Fourth Ward.

Beall, 30, is also running for the same position in the November election.

In a special meeting before its regular meeting, the Board of Aldermen unanimously appointed Beall to replace Alderman Keith Maynard, who stepped down in August after being arrested for allegedly assaulting his then-fiancee.

Beall said he is a stay-at-home dad while he is in between jobs, and is the head coach for the city’s youth football team. He said he wants to focus on public safety issues during his time on the board.

I see a lot that goes on,” Beall said. The opportunity came along where I can use my judgement to help out, to help Ansonia.”

Board members said they were pleased with the appointment.

I think he’s a great selection for the board,” said Board of Aldermen President Steve Bloom. He’s young and energetic, and he’s got a lot of ideas.”

Mayor James Della Volpe said he has known Beall for several years, and even coached him in high school. Della Volpe said Beall was a team player who would get along well with the members of the board.

He’ll be a tremendous addition to this board,” Della Volpe said. He was very coachable, very attentive.”
