The city had to pay an extra $5,750 in ballot costs after one Board of Education candidate pulled out of the race a month before Election Day.
The bill, which was approved by the Board of Aldermen last week, has some officials pointing fingers at Citizens United, the city’s third political party.
But the state election schedule leaves some questions about whether Citizens United was in the wrong when it withdrew a candidate in early October.

First Selectwoman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers and Selectman Dave McKane were sworn into office Monday as more than 150 residents and politicians from both sides of the aisle looked on at Town Hall.
Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz administered the oaths of office to Drayton-Rogers and McKane along with Town Clerk Margaret Potts-West and newly elected Democratic officials for boards and commissions.
Town Attorney and Master of Ceremonies Fran Teodosio welcomed Republican Selectman elect David Yish and other newly elected Republican board and commission members who attended the Democratic event.

A funny thing happened Tuesday.
A Republican was elected to the Board of Aldermen in Ansonia.
It’s the first time in the past 10 years that a Republican has held a seat on the 14-member board.
