About 56 percent of the money raised by Democrats in the time period covered came from three political committees.
Those political committees making donations were:
- Valley Forward, a Derby-based committee that donated $600
- AFT Connecticut Political Committee, affiliated with the state teachers’ union, donated $1,500
- Cabrera For The People, affiliated with state Sen. Jorge Cabrera, donated $1,500
“I think the Democrats have done well with fundraising for the election so far. We have been continually meeting our goals that we have set for ourselves which directly impact our fight to bring community representation to the Board of Aldermen,” Gary Farrar, Jr., the chairman of the Ansonia Democratic Town Committee, said in an email.
“There is always room for improvement, especially with new methods and technology coming to light during an election season. The key thing with any organization that relies on donations is to always look at what ways we can better reach our supporters and the best ways to utilize those donations,” he wrote.
John Marini, Ansonia GOP chairman, declined to comment on the Democrats’ latest campaign finance disclosure.
Money donated to campaigns pay for campaign material such as mailings, lawn signs and advertising, and office rent. The forms can also indicate from where candidates are receiving the most support.
The filings show the Democrats paid $1,500 in rent for their Main Street office, and spent $573.37 on campaign signs.
The Democrats were late handing in the paperwork, which was due Oct. 12. The filings were visible on the state’s eCris website the morning of Oct. 14.
“Unfortunately in today’s busy world there is always the possibility that things may not get filed in the correct time frame,” Farrar said. “The late filing was attributed to simple human error and if anything we will use it as a learning experience for the future.”
Another round of campaign finance disclosures are due a week before the Nov. 2 election.
There is no top-of-the ticket race this year, as Mayor David Cassetti is running unopposed.
The Democrats are looking to pick up additional seats on the Ansonia Board of Aldermen, where the GOP currently holds a 10 – 3 majority with one unaffiliated Alderwoman who is running with the GOP. The did not nominated a candidate Mayor David Cassetti, who is running for his fifth term and has won re-election previously by large margins.
