SEYMOUR — A multi-alarm fire in downtown Seymour Saturday displaced 20 people.
There were no injuries reported. The cause and origin are under investigation by the Seymour Fire Marshal’s office.
The fire at 145 – 149 Main St. was first reported about 12:15 p.m. after a police officer saw wires sparking on the side of the building, according to The Connecticut Post.
The fire spread to 159 Main St. The buildings had apartments on the upper floors, commercial on the first.
Firefighters from all over the Valley responded to assist.
“Fire was found running through all (three) floors, the walls, as well as in the roof area. Crews had to back out due to a partial roof collapse, but soon re-entered and were able to extinguish the fire,” according to a Facebook post from Seymour’s Great Hill Hose Co. “Crews remained on scene for hours overhauling and chasing hotspots.”
The fire departments were on scene until about 4:30 p.m.
