Four Hospitalized After Car Wreck In Ansonia

Four people were rushed to area hospitals after a car crash on Westfield Avenue in Ansonia Tuesday morning.

Lt. Andrew Cota of the Ansonia Police Department said the four adult victims were all alert after Ansonia firefighters used Hurst tools — the jaws of life” — to cut them out of the crushed car.

They were taken to Bridgeport Hospital and Yale-New Haven Hospital. The extent of their injuries were not known.

Cota said police are looking for a potential witness to the wreck.

We are looking for a witness that left the scene. We only have a first name of Vera,” Cota said in an e‑mail.

If Vera reads this, please call the Ansonia Detective Division at (203) 735‑1885.

The crash happened at about 10 a.m.

The car — a tan, four door, larger sedan — was in terrible shape after hitting the rear of a parked SUV, a utility pole and a building, Children’s Medical Associates, at 20 Westfield Ave., a short distance from the intersection with Wakelee Avenue.

Details were sketchy as of 11 a.m. Tuesday, as a crew from United Iluminating were working to clear a snapped utility pole and fallen wires away from the crash scene. A second pole was also leaning precariously as a result of the wreck.

The crash left 168 United Illuminating customers in the area without electricity as of 11 a.m.
