Gentile Named House Deputy Speaker

State Representative Linda M. Gentile (D‑Ansonia, Derby) has been appointed by Speaker of the House Brendan Sharkey (D‑Hamden) to serve in the key position of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

I look forward to working closely with Speaker Sharkey this legislative session,” said Gentile. I am honored to be appointed Deputy Speaker. I plan on keeping our state on the path of economic recovery, focusing on job opportunities and tax policy.”

When the Speaker of the House is absent from the chamber, the Deputy Speaker presides over the House of Representatives, recognizes all members wishing to speak to the chamber, puts all questions to vote and directs legislation to the proper committees.

Gentile will also serve as chair of the Screening Committee, which analyzes legislation and prepares it for discussion on the House Chamber floor. She will also serve on the Legislative Management Committee.

The entire membership of the General Assembly will be sworn into office Jan. 7 at the State Capitol in Hartford during the opening day ceremony of the 2015 session.
