Gov. Dannel Malloy recently embraced the idea of spending $300,000 for a Mileage Tax study, a study that Senate Candidate George Logan is entirely against.
“Spending $300,000 on a study to add to our tax burden is unacceptable,” said Logan. “Equally disturbing is our state Senator Joe Crisco would like residents to stop talking about it. What is he afraid of? Maybe he is worried about people finding out he voted for the budget that allocated these funds to the Department of Transportation back in June.”
The idea of a Mileage Tax first sparked debate last year when a panel, created by Governor Malloy, suggested the concept as a way to fund the Democrats’ unfeasible $100-billion, 30-year transportation plan.
In June, the Connecticut Department of Transportation announced they will be joining Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire to study the mileage tax concept, which will tax individuals by tracking the amount of miles they have driven.
Logan observed that months passed without Senator Crisco addressing this issue, in fact, he waited to get permission from Senate Democratic leadership before coming out with a statement.
“Senator Crisco continues to act as an automatic vote for his party leadership, not as a true representative of the people of our district. Over the past six years, a critical time for our state, Crisco has voted one hundred percent with Gov. Malloy.
“Voters are now seeing Senator Crisco has put party before constituents for the past twenty plus years,” explained Logan. “It’s time to elect someone who understands the needs of people in the 17th district and will cast votes that reflect those needs, not those of a political party. The days of career politicians telling people what to do and when to do it needs to end on election day, November 8th.”
