Rep. Conroy Should Take Responsibility For Budget Deficits

State Rep. Theresa Conroy is trying to backpedal her reckless budget votes that have put the state on a pathway towards future deficits by pushing the blame away from her, Nicole Klarides-Ditria said in a press release.

The most recent news that the governor’s office is preparing for additional layoffs, and even worse, cuts to our state’s Vocational Technical High Schools, should be no surprise to residents,” said Klarides-Ditria. The governor and the majority party Democrats failed to fully address our perpetual budget deficits, passing budgets that have continually raised taxes and increased spending.”

The governor’s office sent a letter to state agency heads this week stating, Agencies may need to further reduce, or perhaps cease delivering altogether, certain programs or services, and additional headcount reductions may be necessary.”

Rep. Conroy’s budgets have failed to address our state’s structural problems,” added Klarides-Ditria. Republicans have released budget proposals year-after-year that would have tackled our growing deficits, without the need for devastating cuts and tax increases. Why didn’t Rep. Conroy support the Republican budget proposals? Because she would rather support Governor Malloy’s failed policies than her constituents.”

The Office of Fiscal Analysis revised budget projections show that the next biennial budget will be in the red $2.7 billion.

Klarides-Ditria said that Rep. Conroy will always support Gov. Malloy’s budgets and that voters should not fall for her election year gimmicks.
