FIRST SELECTWOMAN
Annmarie Abenante Drugonis
Republican incumbent
Years lived in town/city:
17 years
Profession:
First Selectwoman of Seymour
Prior elected office title and years served:
Board of Selectman Since 2006 – 2020; First Selectwoman 2020 – present;
Local community or civic engagement:
LEPC 1995-2001, 2004 – Present ; WPCA 2009 – 2020 ; Board of Public Works 2015-2020; Seymour Pop Warner 2012 – 2015; Great Hill Hose Ladies Auxiliary 2006-2012
Why are you running for office and what do you hope to accomplish?
“Seymour welcomed my family nearly twenty years ago. Since then, my daughter Alana and I have come to call many of your our friends and family.
In 2007, longtime Selectwoman Roberta King asked me to join the Board of Selectmen. Last year, I was honored to have the confidence of my colleagues to appoint me as First Selectwoman.
I am running because Seymour is my home – our home – and together, we realize our Town’s full potential.
In my first full term, we will hit the ground running with an Economic Development Director. With our incredible community partners, we will continue the spark of Downtown redevelopment, attract and expand businesses to reduce the tax burden of our residents. Beautification and remediation efforts are ongoing, and we will continue the pursuit of absentee property owners. As we emerge from the challenges of COVID, we welcome the return of our parades and community events, so we can begin reconnecting in person.
I look forward to working collaboratively with our new Superintendent, Dr. Compton, and our Board of Education to develop experiential learning programs for those looking to pursue careers in engineering, the trades, or environmental fields.
The cornerstone of any municipal government is transparency. We are made better when every resident has a voice. We will communicate local elections and budget referendums to residents via our CodeRED system and mailed notices. We will attract new perspectives to our Town Boards and Commissions, whose meeting calendars and detailed minutes are posted on our website.
My door is always open. If you have a concern, question, or idea, please do not hesitate to contact my office. I will always listen, and you will always hear back.
It is an honor to be your First Selectwoman. I look forward to working for you.”

Why are you running for office and what do you hope to accomplish?
“When I ran in 2019, I wanted to give full transparency on what we were doing on the Board of Selectmen, and get people more involved in the political process. That process is ongoing, and has been successful so far. On top of that, I prioritize road and infrastructure repairs, preserving and maintaining our open spaces and land trusts, continuing to focus on economic development both downtown and on the Route 34 corridor, and updating statutes and regulations to fit the needs of a post-COVID 21st century. I also support and am pushing for a more acerbic approach to the Tri-Town Plaza, as attempts to work with the owner have not come to fruition and the property is increasingly dilapidated.”

Why are you running for office and what do you hope to accomplish?
“I am running for a seat on Seymour’s Board of Selectmen because I am exhausted by my own recent inaction around local politics. Too often I have found myself scrolling through my social media feed viewing the comment section of virtually any town focused topic or vote and always having an opinion on a specific outcome. Instead of an after the fact opinion I would like to have a hands on approach to what happens in our town moving forward. My goal is to ensure that my actions reflect the shared values of my town residents no matter the political affiliation.”
“Action items: – Revitalizing Seymour’s downtown with a focus on new business that drives our residents to it’s storefronts (Restaurants, Bars, Coffee shops)
- Enhancing community engagement with a focus on the importance of our residents taking part in community events & local government
- Ensuring we maintain green space and a small town feel while also encouraging a growth in economic development”
