Seymour Has Four Candidates For School Superintendent’s Position

SEYMOUR — The Seymour of Education is looking for help from the public to pick a new superintendent of schools.

Superintendent Michael Wilson’s last day was June 30.

The school board has been working with a consulting firm, Ray & Associates, to assist in the search for a replacement.

The board announced last week that it has narrowed its search down to four semi-finalists.

The public’s been involved in the process through forums and discussions, and not the board is asking the public to fill out a survey online.

The deadline to complete the survey is 5 p.m., July 12.

The four candidates will be joining the board and the community in Seymour over the next two weeks for a final round of interviews, tours of the school district and community forums.

The job application process closed at the end of May, and according to school board chairman Ed Strumello, there were more than 1,400 people, with the candidate pool represented by every state in the U.S., expressed interest in the job.

Wilson’s last day was June 30.

During the board’s June 22 meeting, Wilson was feted for a job well done. After four years on the job here as schools’ chief, Wilson thanked the central office staff, the board, parents, students and staff for making his time at the helm of Seymour schools worthwhile.

I’ve been honored to lead this district and I wish nothing but the best for Seymour schools moving forward,” Wilson said.

Wilson came to Seymour in 2017 after serving as neighboring Ansonia’s assistant superintendent. He previously served as Ansonia High School’s assistant principal, was Ansonia’s K‑12 district coordinator for math and science, and taught in several schools in Greenwich and his native New York.

Board member Fred Stanek lauded Wilson on a job well done these past four years, especially given the challenges of COVID-19.
