Ansonia School Superintendent Carol Merlone released a statement Thursday evening saying she still hopes to reach a compromise with city government ahead of date with a Superior Court judge next week.
“On Monday, the day before our case is heard in Superior Court in Derby, there will be meetings between the school district and the city, presided by a judge, in an attempt to settle this issue,” Merlone said.

Dear Members of the Community,
It saddens me to witness misguided vitriol being directed at an institution that has always held my interests and the interests of thousands of other students in the highest regard.
I seek to reciprocate by educating the community as it did with me and others through leveraging the abilities I attained while I was a student at Georgetown and a professional at different multinational corporations.

In the wake of the recent events going on with the City of Ansonia and the Board of Education, there seems to be even more misinformation being spread, most notably from the Board of Apportionment and Taxation, along with the help of some Aldermen.
The newest target of scrutiny from BOAT seems to be the lack of a “full budget” from the Board of Education. They boast about how “the City budget is over 1000 pages,” and that “the Board of Education is lacking transparency.” But is it really?
In this episode of ‘Navel Gazing: The Valley Indy Podcast,’ reporters Eugene Driscoll and Ethan Fry try to break the Ansonia school funding battle into the simplest components.
The school board has a lawsuit pending against city government for taking $600,000 away from the schools earlier this year.
