Projection is a theory in psychology in which humans defend themselves against their own unconscious impulses or qualities by denying their existence in themselves while attributing them to others.
What, you may ask, does all this have to do with anything?
I would propose that the Ansonia Democrats are suffering an extreme case of psychological projection.

Ansonia Democrats have been looking into the important details and spending trajectory of our city, past, present, and future. We have been sounding the alarm with regard to the unsustainable budgets coming out of Mayor Cassetti’s administration, which has increased city spending every year, borrowed tens of millions, and is purging the city’s savings account to the combined tune of over $9.1 million dollars. This borrowing and savings account spending is not in the name of economic development that would serve to potentially grow the city economically, but to pay for things like vehicles, roads and other standard operating budget items that are usually paid for with normal city revenue.

The Ansonia Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit has been short-staffed since summer, Police Chief Kevin Hale told Aldermen last week.
During that time there have been three shootings on the city’s streets.
The chief said that’s not a coincidence.

It never ceases to amaze me how the Board of Apportionment and Taxation can approve such drastic educational budget cuts to Ansonia’s children.
My fellow Board members and I have worked so hard on presenting a transparent budget that is beyond fair and reasonable in today’s Educational realm in order to meet the needs of all of our students.
We have worked tirelessly with our team which includes the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Business Manager, and all other educational stakeholders to draft a budget that is fair in all aspects.

Ansonia’s tax board voted unanimously Monday on a 2017 – 2018 budget that would fund the city’s library and recreation programs fully while giving the city’s Board of Education $837,252 less than school officials say they need.
Under the tax board’s plan the property tax rate would rise slightly.
But in Ansonia, the Board of Aldermen has the final say on the budget — and Mayor David Cassetti said Tuesday he’ll ask the Aldermen to discard many of the tax board’s recommendations.

Gov. Dannel Malloy isn’t popular in the lower Valley — especially if you read the Valley Indy’s Facebook feed.
In advance of his visit to Ansonia Monday, a reader wondered if he would be charging a tax on his appearance.
Others requested he simply stay away. One guy suggested the governor’s pockets be checked before he left.
But Malloy, a Democrat, has found an unlikely ally here — Republican Ansonia Mayor David Cassetti and his administration.

State Sen. George Logan wrote the following letter in response to a letter from Ansonia Mayor David Cassetti.
I share Ansonia Mayor David S. Cassetti’s passion for making certain that Ansonia gets treated equitably by the State of Connecticut in the area of public education funding.
By now, we know that Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s budget proposal shortchanges Ansonia and towns across Connecticut.

As an Ansonia resident and elected official, I find it absolutely appalling that we could be facing cuts to our historic library. But if something is not done about the astonishingly high cost of public education in our city than we face a future of continually cutting services or constantly raising taxes.
